Growing & using All Purple Mexican Bush Sage

All Purple Mexican Bush Sage is a bold colored flower with rich purple flowers and the same color caylxes. It looks great planted with the traditional variety of Salvia leucantha which has purple clayxes and white flowers. Both typically bloom in late summer and early fall. More about fall blooming plants.

All Purple Mexican Bush Sage Flower Stem

Covered in velvety spires, that hummingbirds desire, Mexican Bush Sage is a wonder that every garden should hold. Mexican Bush Sage dies back to the ground in most areas. It should be cut back to the ground after the top dies. If it stays evergreen in your area, we suggest trimmming it back by about a third each year.

While Mexican Bush Sage is a low water use plant, it still needs to stay hydrated. The bush below is a little off center because it has been repeatedly watered with an overhead sprinkler. Lower watering, like drip, keeps the bush wet and more symmetrical.
