Growing & using Royal Purple Autumn Sage
Royal Purple Autumn Sage is one of the smaller leaved salvias that are often referred to as Autumn Sages. Most plants in this group have red, orange or yellow flowers which makes the striking purple flowers of S. muelleri a treasure. The dark purple calyxes help to darken the overall appearance. The stems become green as they age. The bright green foliage and the dark purple stems and flowers complement each other brilliantly. Royal Purple Autumn Sage is a small airy plant that should be planted at the front of the border. It blooms from mid summer until frost. Just before frost or early in spring the plant should be cut back to about six or eight inches in all directions. This keeps the plant tidy and fresh looking. Flowers can be used as a beautiful garnish.
Royal Purple Autumn Sage makes a great addition to our Edible Flower Herb Garden Six Pack.
