Growing & using Mint the Best Spearmint

Mint the Best Spearmint plant in pot.

This very healthy potted Mint the Best with its bright green aromatic leaves brings a Mediterranean feel to this garden.

A container with a large surface area helps mint to grow abundantly. Mints grown in about five to six hours of sun develop better color and flavor. In hot summer areas, late afternoon shade helps to cut down on the watering chores. Mint the Best is hardy down to zone 4 and will die back to the ground in winter. Cut to the ground in late fall and new growth will be fresh and crisp in spring. It may need to be divided in the spring. When the mint stops producing heavily, it is time to thin out the roots.

Close up of Spearmint Mint the Best

Spearmints, like Mint The Best, have less menthol than peppermint varieties which make them the best choice for using fresh in mint sauces and drinks. They may also be dried for winter tea.

Mint the Best makes a great addition to our Kitchen Herb Garden Six Pack.

This plant is often available in plug trays. These trays hold 128 of all the same plant. They are a great low cost way to fill a lot of space. Each cell is 3/4 of inch by an inch. Check here to see if Mint the Best Plug Trays are available.
